'Lock-in Profit' Management

Lock in profits once price hits your target. This template moves SL to +1R after 2% profit and lets the trade run from there.

Step-by-Step Guide

This management template helps you secure profits without over-managing your trades. It checks, once every tick, if your running profit has reached or exceeded a set threshold.

Step 0: Access the Trading System Template [1 Min]

Click the button to load the management directly onto your canvas:

Your canvas should display 4 blocks as shown below. Check? Let's continue!

Step 1: Export the Trading System [1 Min]

Before diving into customization, export the trading system with the upper right 'DOWNLOAD' button.

Step 2: Upload to MetaTrader 5 [4 Min]

Don’t know how? Refer to our help article How to run your trading system live on your broker account.

Step 3: Understand the Logic [5 Min]

Here’s how it works:

  • Profit threshold: 2% of account balance

  • Stop loss moves to: +1R in profit (100% of initial stop size)

Once triggered, the stop loss locks in profit at 1R and will not move again. The trade then plays out until either stop loss or take profit is hit.

This is a “one-time” profit lock—great for traders who want protection after a strong move but don’t want the stop chasing every candle.

Step 4: Make It Your Own [10 Min]

Experiment with these adjustments to match your style:

  • Change the profit threshold (e.g. 1% instead of 2%).

  • Adjust the lock-in level (e.g. 0.5R or 2R instead of 1R).

  • Combine with other management blocks (e.g. time-based close or trailing stop).

Run a backtest in Profectus after each change and compare the runs in the Backtests panel.

Conclusion

The Lock-In Profit Management template is a simple yet powerful way to protect gains. By securing profit at a fixed level (1R by default), you reduce risk of giving back strong moves while keeping your system clean and disciplined. Test different thresholds and lock-in levels to see how it fits your trading style.

Now it's your turn—apply the template, tweak the logic, and make it yours. 🚀
