Purpose of Volumes
The Volumes indicator shows the trading volume of each candle. For most forex and CFD brokers this is the tick volume: the number of price changes during the candle. High volume shows strong participation; low volume shows a quiet market.
How It Works
Volumes has no period settings. It simply returns the volume of the selected candle.
When you select Volumes in the Trade Rule block, you can configure it with the following settings:
Time Frame of Volumes
Sets the chart time frame for the Volumes calculation.
Can be replaced with a variable or input for quick testing and optimization.
Candle ID of Volumes
Defines which candle the calculation starts from.
0: Current candle (still forming).
1: Most recently closed candle.
Higher IDs refer to older candles.
Adjust of Volumes (Modify the Result)
Apply an adjustment to the calculated value by adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing by a number.
Example
If you set:
Candle ID: 1
You get the volume of the most recently closed candle. Compare it with the volume of earlier candles to detect unusual activity.
Use Cases
Confirm breakouts with higher-than-usual volume.
Avoid trading during quiet periods with low volume.
Compare the current candle's volume with an earlier candle to spot spikes.
⚠ Tip: Volume levels differ a lot per symbol, broker and time of day. Compare with earlier candles rather than with a fixed number.
